Democracy: Code for Mob Rule

Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.
-Franklin D. Roosevelt
FDR was a hack and knew nothing about what democracy really is. In fact, most statists do not understand what democracy is as well. We are fed the propaganda definition, like the one FDR gives, that state that we rule ourselves through democratic votes or by electing representatives in a republic. This is all nonsense. As I stated in my last entry on Tuesday, government in any form always comes at the cost of liberty. This is true for any system that says it's "better" than any other by how it distributes power. In the case of a democracy, the theory is that it is distributed among the people through votes. This, on the surface, seems like a fair system. Everyone gets a say, we tally the votes and then the majority wins. This, however, is exactly why "democracy" is a terrible system. It's simply a euphemism for mob rule.

Mob rule is "control of a political situation by those outside the conventional or lawful realm, typically involving violence and intimidation." Some might say "but wait a minute! Government enforces law!" Like I pointed out in my post about what government is, it violates the main law that any moral springs from. The non-aggression principle. So even here, democracy falls into the definition of mob rule. It is a group of people violating the highest of moral laws to achieve it's ends. It does this through force as those that oppose the vote of the majority have the majority's "laws" forced upon them. If they refuse these laws they are imprisoned, deprived of property, or even deprived of life.

Let us use an example in order to explain this further. Let us use gun control laws. So let us say that 51% of the population is in favor of stricter gun control laws while 49% are not (I am making up statistics here as an example). Because the majority has decided that stricter laws are in order, the laws pass and everyone (or 51% of everyone) is excited about how society has moved itself forward to a less violent future. But has it really?

What about the other 49% that were against these new laws and found them unconstitutional and unlawful? Their rights are sacrificed because a larger number has decided it can take them away. This does not sound civil. This does not sound humane. This does not sound like freedom. This sounds like violence and aggression perpetrated by the majority. This is really a barbaric system and I cannot see why anyone would think it to be moral and just!

Representation is another hoax. A representative can only represent a minimum of 51% of their citizens. This is not being represented within the proper definition of the term. As an example let us say that you wanted to go to an auction but you could not physically be there. Instead, you send your friend in your place to make the bids on your behalf. Your friend represents you in this scenario and if they do anything outside of your wishes, they are held accountable. In the realm of politics you can have a representative who represents absolutely nothing about you and supports bills and laws you disagree with, yet you cannot take actions against them as they only represent the majority and you are in the minority vote. We then have the gall to call this a fair representation! The logical disconnect is, I hope, horribly apparent.

If a representative could in fact represent 100% of their citizens 100% of the time, we would have no need for them! What would be their job?!

The bottom line is that a violation of the Non-Aggression Principle cannot be violated in a collectivist setting and then become moral because a majority says so. Nor does a violation of another's rights instantly become moral because you think your endgame is moral. It does not become moral because an imaginary thing like "The State" dresses people up in costumes, gives them shiny badges and guns and has them enforce the majorities immoral laws on everyone else. Democracy is just another form of violence man perpetrates against man.

Democracy is a step in the right direction since it at least pretends to care about liberties. But it is still brutish and coercive on it's most basic form. It's a system where we are left with choices that were chosen for us to begin with by government sponsors. It gives the authorities in power the ability to do to us what they were going to do anyways; only this way, it looks like it's done by us to benefit us (government by the consent of the people).

Democracy is mob rule and just another tool of the protection racket known as government. It is only insidious on a hidden level as it makes the people feel like they have choice and power and the ability to make important decisions in the system. The insidious nature of it is that we are still all slaves to the super elites as we always pick what they want us to pick. That is because even democracy exists at the cost of individual rights. It's the majority using coercive force over a minority.

“Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else.”
